The GHS band department has long been regarded as one of the most well-rounded band programs in the State of Indiana. The band department is comprised of the following ensembles: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Crimson Jazz Ensemble, Advanced Crimson Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Crimson Marching Band, Winter Percussion Ensemble, and Winter Guard. There are many small ensembles that are formed to participate in the annual ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest in the winter.
The marching band has been a 16-time ISSMA state finalist with 14 consecutive appearances, and has performed at Disney World, the Fiesta Bowl, the Blue Bonnett Bowl, and even London, England. The Advanced Crimson Jazz Ensemble took top honors at the Heritage Music Festival in New York City in 2003 and often has many award winners at the many jazz festivals they attend each year.
Our Winter Percussion Ensemble was the Class A State Champion in 2003 for the Concert Percussion division of the Indiana Percussion Association and placed 3rd in 2004.
This coming year the Wind Ensemble had the honor of being the only high school band to perform at the 2005 Indiana Music Educators Association annual conference in Indianapolis on January 14th.
