GHS GIRLS SOCCER HISTORY
The
Lady Redskins soccer program began in 1996. Over the course of its ten
year history, the team has established itself as solid contender in
Northern
Indiana. During its brief history, the Lady Redskins soccer program has
brought home two sectional championship (1996, 2006), finished
sectional
runner-up (2002, 2004, & 2007), and has consistently finished among
the
top teams in
the NLC. The Redskins won their first NLC
championship in 2006. The coaching staff at Goshen is very proud
of what the
team
has
achieved over this time. The Lady Redskins soccer team is also
consistently
strong academically, as evidenced by its team GPA of 3.5 during the
past
school year.
Over the
years many Goshen
players have continued to play soccer in college. This year both
Lynn Weaver and Brianne Mault have signed with Goshen College.
Sara Barker has signed to play with Manchester College. The
following GHS almuni are currently playing in college: Yaneth
Hernandez
(Goshen College), Courtney Rozelle (IUPUI), Kelsey Peters (Wooster
College), Rose Byler (Eastern Mennonite
University), and Nora Miller (Goshen
College).
Ultimately,
the
coaching staff wants to create a competitive atmosphere that will help
its players improve, while at the same time instilling positive life
lessons
on its players. We want the student-athletes who come through the
program
to be able to say that some of their most enjoyable memories from high
school are those that they had while playing soccer at Goshen High
School.
